Roulette strategy
Introduction
Roulette is the classic casino game and probably the easiest game to learn, but it is also one of the easiest places for the house to earn a lot of money. So don’t go here if you want to optimise your chances of winning, but play roulette for the thrill and excitement. And if it is your lucky day the reward is indeed very attracting.
The principle of Roulette is to bet on which number on the wheel you think the ball will fall into when the wheel stops. The wheel is usually divided into 36 holes with equal probability for the ball to fall into each of them.

When you’ve decided which number you want to bet at, you have to place the bet on the similar number showed on the table before the wheel spins. If the ball falls into your number you’ll get your bet multiplied back (see quotas below).
American Roulette rules
When using American rules the payout will be up to 94,74%. The wheel will have 38 holes, which are numbered from 1-36, and 0 and 00. The table below gives you an overview of the payoff quota and probabilities that you can expect from betting on various combinations.

European Roulette rules
There is one major difference in European roulette compared to the American rules as described above: In European roulette there’s not a hole with 00, thus giving you an advantage and better chances of winning (payout 97.3%).
Also, if you choose to bet on the simple chances with payoff quotas of 1:1, and the ball stops on 0, you will loose your stakes if you are playing American roulette. In European roulette though you are will either have your stakes ‘imprisoned’ (which means the roulette wheel will spin again and you will get your money back if the ball stops in your favor) or they’ll pay you half of your bet back. Due to this fact it is a good idea to place your bets on simple chances (1:1) when the casino uses European rules because your possible payout is this situation is 98.65%.
For the European rules the payoff quotas and probabilities look like this:
| Bet on |
Example |
Payoff quota |
Probability |
| Any number | 7 | 35:1 | 2.7% |
| 2-number-combination | 8-9 | 17:1 | 5.4% |
| 3-number-combination | 13-14-15 | 11:1 | 8.1% |
| 4-number-combination | 4-5-7-8 | 8:1 | 10.8% |
| 6-number-combination | 25 through 30 | 5:1 | 16.2% |
| Column | 1,4,7....28,31,34 | 2:1 | 32.4% |
| Dozen | 1,2,3....10,11,12 | 2:1 | 32.4% |
| Even or odd number | 2,4,6....32,34,36 | 1:1 | 48.6% |
| 1-18 or 19-36 | 1 through 18 | 1:1 | 48.6% |

Winning systems
When you play casinos on the Internet you will notice never ending variations of winning systems for Roulette, but they are never as advantageous as they might sound, so please don’t be fooled! When playing Roulette – as well as other casino games - you might be lucky to win for a short time, but all mathematical logic will let you know that in the long run the house always wins. If it weren’t so, nobody would want to run a casino!
The most famous winning system is called ‘The Martingale System’ and can be used for all types of casino games. This system is all about sticking to a strategy of doubling your bet every time you loose, and then go back to the starting bet when you win. The point is that when you do so, your latest win will be big enough to cover the previous bets that you’ve lost. Lets say you start with a €5 bet and you loose 7 rounds, then your bets will look like this: €5-10-20-40-80-120-240-480. The problem is now, that in order to be able to place the last bet, you need to have a account of €960 from the start (even if you have this you may not be allowed to place such a high bet at the casino). When you sum up the winnings after these risky bets you would altogether have won €5! From a theoretical perspective this system looks good, but in practice it causes troubles when you suddenly run out of money on your account and can’t double your bets, or maybe the casino won’t allow you to place a high wager.
So using this system is not recommend, because you put a lot of money at risk for small winnings and in the long run it is not giving you an advantage.
The best place I know for for playing roulette online is Inter Casino. – The graphics are excellent and you can play for fun or with real money.
